Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telégrafos (Correios) informs that the cities of Juiz de Fora, Ubá and Matias Barbosa, in the state of Minas Gerais, experienced severe storms on 24 February 2026.
Heavy rain caused landslides and flooding in large parts of these cities, destroying thousands of homes and resulting in a death toll of several dozen people.
The mayors of these cities have declared a state of public emergency in their municipalities due to persistent heavy rains in the region.
As a result, postal services have been suspended indefinitely in Juiz de Fora, Ubá and Matias Barbosa until the rains cease and the floodwaters recede. The affected postcode areas and post offices are as follows:
