SingPost issues stamps to mark 50 years of Singapore’s fight against drugs

Singapore, 7 December 2021 –Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) today issued a set of stamps to mark the 50th anniversary since the formation of Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). The commemorative set of three stamps was unveiled by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the CNB50 Anniversary Event held at the Goodwood Park Hotel earlier today.

With varying typography, the set of three stamps features the following key anti-drug messages, in sequence: (1) Stop Drug Abuse, (2) Say No to Drugs, and (3) Drugs Destroy Lives. These messages serve as a reminder of CNB’s commitment for a Singapore without drugs, where everyone can live, work and play safely.

CNB was founded on 2 November 1971 as the central agency for tackling drug abuse and trafficking in Singapore. In 1973, the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA) was enacted to provide for stronger legislative powers to better manage the drug situation in Singapore. Further amendments in the subsequent years enhanced the penalties for drug pushers and traffickers to provide more deterrence, so as to suppress the demand and supply of drugs in Singapore more effectively.

The cover of the specially designed presentation pack features CNB’s elite team, the Special Task Force, fully equipped in their operational gear and ready to cripple drug syndicates for a safer and drug-free Singapore. The presentation pack also contains a write-up on CNB’s transformation journey over the years in Singapore’s fight against drugs; how CNB came to being; CNB’s role through the past 50 years and how it has evolved; as well as the commitment of CNB officers – past and present – who dedicate their lives to keep Singapore safe from drugs.

Sale of stamps

The stamps (valued at 30 cents, 90 cents and S$1.40 each), Pre-cancelled First Day Covers (S$4.05) and Presentation Packs (S$5.10) are on sale from today (7 December 2021) at all post offices, Philatelic Stores and online at shop.singpost.com, while stocks last.
