Singapore, 4 September 2020 – In conjunction with Teachers’ Day, Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) issued a set of anti-COVID-19 themed stamps featuring the Soaper 5, a superhero squad created by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to engage and educate students on how they can protect themselves in the nation’s fight against COVID-19.

The set of six stamps were launched on Teachers’ Day this year as a tribute to our education fraternity for their resilience and hard work in ensuring that students continue to learn in a safe environment amidst the pandemic.

The Soaper 5: not your everyday heroes
When the threat of COVID-19 emerged in Singapore earlier this year, MOE introduced the Soaper 5 to guide students in keeping themselves and their friends safe and healthy.

The Soaper 5 superheroes each champion a positive behaviour that helps to keep the virus at bay They are: Virus Screener Varun for checking your temperature daily; Mask Up Mei Mei for wearing a mask; Super Soaper Soffy for washing your hands; Hands Down Hana for not touching your face with your hands, and Wipe Up Wilson for keeping surfaces clean.

Over the last few months, the Soaper 5 have also guided students on good practices during Home-Based Learning and reminded them to look after their friends and family. They have been featured on banners, posters, cartoons and in educational material.

The Soaper 5, conceptualised to help children remember simple hygiene rules, also remind people that everyone – even the youngest in our community – can play a part in the fight against COVID-19.

SingPost Senior Vice President for Post Office Network, Financial Services & Philately, Ms Marjorie Ooi said: “We are proud to partner MOE in issuing these commemorative stamps to honour the education fraternity, an integral part of our community, working tirelessly in nurturing our young minds amidst the challenges posed by the virus.

“These stamps will become part of Singapore’s collective history for future generations to remember how we as a nation battled this pandemic and lived through this unprecedented crisis, and then emerged stronger as a country.”

Coordinating Divisional Director, Communications and Engagement Group, MOE, Mrs Tan Wai Lan said: “Our teachers and our staff have been at the frontlines in keeping students safe and engaged in learning even as we fight the pandemic. They are the real superheroes, and we are happy to partner SingPost in recognising their immense contributions this Teachers’ Day. We are confident that the education fraternity will emerge stronger and more resilient than before.”

The stamps (valued between 30 and 70 cents each), Pre-cancelled First Day Covers (S$4.45) and Presentation Packs (S$5.55) are on sale from today (4 September 2020) at all post offices, Philatelic Stores and online at shop.singpost.com, while stocks last.
