The $2 commemorative stamp celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Egypt, featuring key landmarks from both nations.

Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) will release a $2 commemorative stamp on 5 November to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Egypt.

Egypt was the first Arab country to recognise Singapore’s independence in 1965, with diplomatic relations established the following year. Over the past six decades, ties have grown through high-level political exchanges, expanding economic cooperation, educational and cultural exchanges and longstanding people-to-people connections.

The countries’ connections predate formal diplomatic ties. The opening of Egypt’s Suez Canal in 1869 shortened sailing times between Europe and Asia by allowing ships to bypass the long voyage around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope. This helped boost trade through Singapore and supported its growth as a trading port. Today, we continue to explore opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas including air connectivity, maritime transport, technical education and healthcare.

The commemorative stamp celebrates this enduring friendship, bringing together landmarks that reflect the heritage and contemporary character of both countries.

Designed by local graphic designer Wong Wui Kong, the stamp features Singapore’s Merlion, the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay, and Marina Barrage alongside Egypt’s Pyramids, River Nile, Cairo Tower, the Citadel, and the historic Bab al-Futuh gate.

The design places Egypt’s ancient landmarks alongside the modern silhouette of Cairo Tower, while Singapore’s distinctive waterfront completes the scene. Together, the landmarks reflect the history, cultural heritage, and vibrancy of both nations.

Egypt Post will issue a joint commemorative stamp on Thursday, 5 November 2026, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Singapore. The Egyptian stamp design highlights an artistic portrait that brings together prominent historical and modern landmarks from both countries, reflecting the cultural identity and urban renaissance of Egypt and Singapore. With the number (60) in the center, the design is flanked on both sides by the national flags of Egypt and Singapore, symbolising decades of fruitful cooperation, friendship, and deep-rooted bilateral ties that have spanned sixty years.
