SingPost staff and management celebrate Iftar together

SINGAPORE, 13 June 2018 – Staff and management of Singapore Post (SingPost) came together yesterday for Iftar, sharing the evening meal that ends the daily Ramadan fast.

Mr S. Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information, was Guest of Honour for the annual event, which gathered more than 100 staff, management and union representatives at SingPost Centre.

Mr Paul Coutts, Group Chief Executive Officer, SingPost, said: “People are at the core of what we do. As SingPost transforms for the eCommerce world, it is the dedication and efforts of our people, especially during this fasting month, that ensure we deliver on the trust that we have been given.”

SingPost has been holding an Iftar celebration every year since 2011, in honour of the hard work put in by frontline and operations staff all year round. As part of the celebration, each of them will be given a festive bonus of up to $300. In addition, lower income members of the SingPost family will continue to receive financial support from the $10 million SingPost Inclusivity Fund that was launched four years ago.

At this year’s Iftar, a new scooter, equipped with a custom-made storage system, was unveiled that will help reduce a postman’s daily routine by up to 20 minutes. Instead of a fixing a storage box at the tail of the vehicle, the new model features a detachable box that may be wheeled to and from the postman’s sorting station. With this, the postman may load letters and packages directly into the box after sorting, without having to transfer them to a separate trolley and then repacking them onto the scooter. Carrying capacity of the new scooter is also improved, up 15 per cent at 190 litres. This will boost delivery efficiency and enhance safety by taking the weight off the postmen, especially as postal services are increasingly used to deliver bulkier eCommerce items.
