SingPost celebrates Chinese New Year with launch of Zodiac Dog stamps

SingPost’s Zodiac Dog stamp set
Issuance Date: 5 January 2018

SINGAPORE, 4 January 2018 – Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) will launch on 5 January 2018 a new set of stamps celebrating this Chinese New Year that marks the start of the Year of the Dog.

The stamp issue consists of three graphical illustrations of the dog, the 11th animal sign in the Chinese zodiac calendar, and is part of SingPost’s Zodiac stamp series that began in 2008 with the rat.

According to tradition, those born in the Year of the Dog are said to be faithful, well-disciplined and determined. They are known to be honest, loyal and trustworthy, with intelligence and an industrious nature that makes them good leaders. Famous personalities born in the Year of the Dog include Confucius, Michael Jackson and Mother Teresa.

The set of stamps comes in three denominations: 1st Local, 70 cents and $1.30.

Pre-cancelled First Day Covers affixed with the complete set of stamps and cancelled with a special Zodiac Dog postmark are available at $3.75 each. Collector’s Sheets with commemorative $5 and $10 stamps may be purchased at $16.80.

The stamps will go on sale from 5 January 2018 at all post offices, the Philatelic Store @ GPO and the Singapore Philatelic Museum. They may also be purchased online at https://shop.singpost.com/.

A specially designed Year of the Dog cachet will be available at the Philatelic Store on 5 January 2018. Mr Leo Teck Chong, the established artist behind the illustrations for the Zodiac stamps, will also be there that day, from 5pm to 7pm, to autograph his designs.
