SingPost breaks local popiah-making record in celebration of 160 years of postal services in Singapore
SINGAPORE, 12 November 2018 – Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) celebrated 160 years of postal services1 today with a community event that broke the Singapore record for the most number of people making popiah together.
President Halimah Yacob, who was the Guest of Honour at the SingPost Community Popiah Party, participated in the record-breaking feat, which saw 370 people making popiah together. The previous record had been 312 people.
“We are happy to have made history today. The success of this endeavour, and more broadly the success of SingPost, is due to the steadfast support of all our partners and customers, as well as the community who have trusted us throughout the years,” said Mr Paul Coutts, Group Chief Executive Officer of SingPost.
“We would like to thank everyone for their trust and support of SingPost, and we look forward to connecting communities across Singapore and the world for many more years to come.”
Joining in the event were 250 seniors from agencies under Community Chest – Sunlove Home, NTUC Health (SilverACE Whampoa), AWWA, AMKFSC Community Services and Thye Hua Kwan Senior Activity Centre @ Beo Crescent, as well as over 120 SingPost staff volunteers.
“We congratulate SingPost on this momentous milestone of 160 years, and are heartened that they have chosen to celebrate it with the seniors in our community by rallying their staff volunteers. Through a simple activity of making popiah, the volunteers brought joy into the lives of the seniors by engaging and interacting with them. We thank SingPost for offering their gift of time in caring for the seniors,” said Ms Charmaine Leung, Managing Director of Community Chest.
The SingPost Community Popiah Party, held at the SingPost Centre Mall Atrium, is a culmination of a month-long series of activities to celebrate 160 years of postal service. Aligned to its corporate social responsibility pillars of heritage, environment and community, the series of activities include a SingPost Care Package distribution to disadvantaged residents, a 160th-anniversary wall mural creation of recycled plastic bottle caps and exhibition, as well as a Kids@SingPost office celebration to show appreciation to the families of SingPost employees.
