Pawnbrokers Act – SpeedCash is a service licenced under
this Act, which was promulgated by the Parliament of Singapore.
Pledged Article – This is the valuable
you pledge in exchange for the cash loan. SpeedCash currently
accepts only gold items of at least 18 karat. When you pay
off your loan plus interest, the pledged article will be returned
to you.
Pledged Amount – This refers to the
cash loan given to you.
Pledged Period – This is the duration
from the time you make a pledge until the expiry date of the
pledge ticket. It can be up to a maximum of 6 months from
the date of pledging, with the option for renewal or early
redemption.
Pledge Ticket – This is a “confirmation
of pledging” issued by SpeedCash describing the pledged
article, the pledged amount, the expiry date and other relevant
information. You need to produce this ticket when renewing
your pledge ticket or redeeming your valuable.
Reserve Price – This is the starting
bid price for an unredeemed pledged article at the public
auction.
Redemption – This is an act of redeeming
the pledged article by presenting the pledge ticket and paying
off the loan plus interest.
Renewal – If you wish to extend the
pledged period, you can seek a “renewal” of your
pledge ticket by paying the outstanding interest.
Forfeiture – This refers to the right
of SingPost to repossess your unredeemed pledges if the pledged
amount is $50 or less after the pledged period expires.
Auction – If you do not redeem your
pledges after the pledged period expires and the pledged amount
is greater than $50, the pledged articles must be sent for
public auction conducted by auctioneers appointed by the Registry
of Pawnbrokers.
