Prohibitions1

Restrictions1

Cancelled or non-cancelled stamps are admitted only as part of an organised philatelic exchange; medicines and vitamins are only admitted on authorisation of the Records Offices for Medicines and Pharmaceutical Products; Printed papers are admitted provided they do not contain printed material prejudicial to Kazakhstan, pornographic, obscene or erotic material.

Ordinary and registered letters must only contain private written messages, documents, receipts, invoices, accounts and private photographs.
Address Addressee’s name and complete address should be indicated legibly. Also, addressee’s telephone number should be indicated, if available.
PARCEL POST

Prohibitions1

Personal correspondence in parcels; raw eggs; honey, pollen, wax, honeycomb; firearms, blade weapons and any types of items that can be used for attack or self-defence (e.g. stilettos, knuckledusters etc); electronic and high frequency machines; copier machines, except typewriters; items prohibited in the Letter Post. If prohibited items are sent in postal articles, one of the following three procedures is followed:

  • Confiscation of the entire article;
  • Confiscation of prohibited items only, the remainder being delivered to the addressee; or
  • Return of article to country of origin.
Restrictions1

Senders should ascertain import requirements from the Kazakhstan authorities before posting the following: Bees, leeches and silkworms; raw products of animal origin; dairy and fish products; fruit and vegetables; hunting weapons.
Customs Duty Inherited goods originating from abroad are allowed into Kazakhstan, free of customs duty, if certificates are received from foreign consulates as regards the right of inheritance and the composition of the legacy. Documents issued by foreign authorities or public bodies should be stamp by a consul of Kazakhstan.

Articles or parts of articles sent to Kazakhstan for repairs or replacement are admitted free of customs duty, if a written declaration from the sender is inserted in the parcel.
Import Permits and Invoices Postal articles sent to state institutions and cooperatives, containing items of commercial value are admitted subject to an import permit issued by the Ministry for Foreign Trade of Kazakhstan. Invoices must accompany postal articles with a commercial value, which are delivered on presentation of the appropriate import permits and payment of customs duty.
Address

Addressee’s name and complete address should be indicated legibly.

The addressee’s telephone number must be included in the address field of the postal parcels.

KENYA (Republic of)

LETTER POST

Customs Declarations Parcel Despatch Note.
Prohibitions1 Bullion; gold, platinum or silver, manufactured or not, precious stones, jewels and other valuable articles except in registered letters; second-hand clothes. Indecent or obscene articles. Ordinary and registered letter containing currency notes and coins. Arms, especially firearms or parts thereof, imitation arms or ammunition.
Restrictions1 Publications dealing with marriage or birth control.

Packing and Marking Packets containing films must bear a white label clearly marked FILMS in black letters.
Address The following key information should be included on all letter and parcel items:

– the addressee's full name, address and post office box number;

– the sender's full name and address;

– contact telephone numbers for both the sender and addressee or their e-mail    addresses, if available.

 

Correspondence should include a P.O. Box or Private Bag number in the address as there is no house delivery.

PARCEL POST (Air Parcel Only)

Customs Declarations Parcel Despatch Note.

Declarations on parcels containing cotton blankets, boots or shoes of rubber and canvas, jerseys, shirts, singlets, socks, stockings and so on, should show the number of articles or pairs enclosed. If piece-goods of cotton or of artificial silk or admixtures thereof are enclosed, the square yardage should be indicated.
Prohibitions1 Letters; except those exchanged between the sender and the addressee of the parcel or persons residing with them; articles which bear the   Kenya coat of arms or resemble it, without authorisation by the Government; bullion and coin exceeding $36 in value; Japanese shaving brushes; trade and immature spirits. Second-hand clothes. Indecent or obscene articles. Arms, especially firearms or parts thereof, imitation arms or ammunition.
Restrictions1 Restrictions apply to the importation of accoutrements, uniforms or clothing which when worn may give the impression that the wearer is in Government employment (Permit from Head of State); condensed milk; game traps (Permit from Chief Game Warden); postal franking machines (Permit from the Postmaster-General); publication dealing with marriage or birth control (Licence from the Commissioner of Customs and Excise); second hand clothing and bedding imported for sale; unmanufactured gold, silver and metal of the platinoid groups (Certificate from the Commissioner of Customs).
Import Permit

For importation of all forms of plant material, in particular seeds, fresh fruits, flowers, etc. a plant import permit must be obtained prior to shipment to Kenya from the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture at any of the two addresses listed as follows:

When issued, the original permit must be submitted to the plant health authorities in the country of origin to ensure compliance with the permit requirements, and for the issue of an additional phytosanitary certificate in accordance with the international model. A copy of the Kenyan permit together with the original of the permit issued by the country of origin must accompany the plants to Kenya.

Plant material arriving in Kenya without authority and without correct accompanying documents may be destroyed or re-shipped to the country of origin at the owner's cost.
Import Licences Import licences are required for certain classes of goods; licences, obtainable from the Imports Controller, Department of Trade and Supplies, PO Box 30430, Nairobi, Kenya, are required for goods imported by traders for re-sale. Senders must confirm before posting a parcel that an import licence, when it is necessary, has been obtained by the addressee.
Invoices A commercial invoice dated and signed by the sender, must be enclosed in every parcel other than those sent to private individuals and the parcel should be marked on the address side "Invoice enclosed". Exceptionally, where a number of parcels are posted on any one day by the same sender to the same addressee, the sender should number the parcels 1, 2, 3 and so on and the invoice should be enclosed in parcel No. 1; the remaining parcels should be endorsed "Invoice enclosed in parcel No. 1".
Packing and Marking Parcels should be very strongly packed, preferably in waterproof material. Those containing films must bear a white label clearly marked FILMS in black letters.
Delivery The following key information should be included on all letter and parcel items:

– the addressee's full name, address and post office box number;

– the sender's full name and address;

– contact telephone numbers for both the sender and addressee or their e-mail addresses, if available.

 

Parcels should include a Post Office Box or Private Bag number in the address. Such parcels are not delivered, but addressees are notified of their arrival and are required to arrange for their collection.
SMS Notification of Arrival An SMS notification of item arrival will be sent to addressees of parcels and EMS items bearing valid mobile phone number

KOREA, DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF

Prohibitions1 Articles and machines used for the manufacture of tobacco; bank-notes, cheques, coin, securities payable to bearer, charged butane gas lighters and refills; gold, silver, other precious metals and jewellery; salt; seeds. Goods are not admitted in the letter post. In addition, the importation in a single packet of articles whose commercial value exceeds 50 U.S. dollars is prohibited.
Restrictions1 Restrictions apply to the importation of cigarettes and tobacco. There are also restrictions on the importation of plants and vegetable products.
Address Correspondence should be addressed in the usual way, but the address should be shown also in Korean characters, if known, and should include the words 'Democratic People's Republic of Korea'.
PARCEL POST

Prohibitions1 Articles sent from places infected with contagious disease; articles produced in the Republic of Korea (i.e. South Korea) and Taiwan; binoculars and telescopes with a magnifying power over 6 times; drastic medicines, acetone, arsenic, methyl alcohol and saccharine, medicines without trademarks and prescriptions, manuscripts, stereotypes, films, photographs, recording tapes, gramophone records which are hostile to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea; non-processed live stock products; pieces of fabrics, poison, opium, morphine, cocaine and other narcotics; radio apparatus, their equipment and other accessories; tinned goods, tobacco and tobacco seeds including cigarettes.
Address Correspondence should be addressed in the usual way, but the address should be shown also in Korean characters, if known, and should include the words “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea”.

Prohibitions1 Letters; arms and weapons, including parts thereof, toy guns; jewellery, and precious metals, gold, silver, platinum, gold bullion (except in insured items); documents and books prejudicial to peace and public order; articles which can be used for espionage; germs; opium pipes; counterfeit coins or imitations of money; bank-notes; promissory notes; cheques; securities payable to bearer (except in insured items); imitation stamps; ginseng; salt; plants, seeds; scales; live animals and insects; all kinds of meats, including edible meat offal, meat-based products and pet foods; silk-worms; virulent and deadly poisons. Ordinary books, newspapers and periodicals are however admitted in any language, including Esperanto. Charged butane gas lighters and refills (uncharged lighters are admitted).

Tobaccos; narcotics and prohibited drugs; counterfeit products and products that violate copyright laws.
Restrictions1 A parcel containing items originating in Foreign countries of a total value exceeding U.S. $100 will not be subject to Customs duty. However, articles not exceeding the above-mentioned limits in value which are imported on a commercial basis, eg. several parcels containing items of the same kind and destined for the same addressee, will be subject to customs duty. These restrictions will not apply to Gift, Red Cross or Relief parcels sent by charitable organisations of foreign countries.
Packing and Marking Parcels containing articles of celluloid must be clearly marked in red with the words "Celluloid".
Gift Parcels The contents must be limited to essential relief items; namely (a) clothing, medicines or similar articles; or (b) non-perishable foodstuffs; toys may be included. Both the parcel and the customs declarations must be clearly marked "Gift Parcel. Unsolicited Gift".

Prohibitions1 Alcoholic drink, industrial alcohol (including denatured, methylated or medicated spirits and methyalcohol); containers containing butane or other pressurized gas; charged butane gas lighters and refills (uncharged lighters are admitted); cultural, imitation, artificial and bleached pearls. Printed matter considered as immoral or as Israelian, anti-Arab or anti-Islamic propaganda. Any postal items containing medicaments or pills whether accompanied by a prescription or not.
Restrictions1

Jewels, precious stones and metals and accessory equipment may only be imported subject to prior approval by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Tapes (cassettes) may only be accepted under the ordinary letter post.

Bank credit cards may be only sent by registered mail or EMS without including the pin number.

Sealing Items closed by means of adhesive tape are recommended to bear the name, mark, stamp or signature of the sender or a mark or date-stamp impression of the office of origin.

Customs Duty
